Gynura aurantiaca is an evergreen perennial plant with dark green leaves, stems, and bracts covered in soft purple hairs that create a velvety texture. It grows up to 30 cm (12 in) tall but may produce trailing or reclining stems reaching 2 m (6.6 ft) in length. The plant produces 1-5 flower heads per stalk, each containing yellow, orange, or red disc flowers (no ray flowers) with a strong odor.
