Dracaena surculosa is a branched shrub or small tree typically growing up to 4 meters tall but occasionally reaching 8 meters. It features reddish-brown tuberous roots that produce canelike shoots covered in thin greenish-white phrophylls. The glossy leaves are bright to dark green with white or yellowish dots, arranged in pseudowhorls, and measure up to 20 cm long and 7 cm wide with acuminate tips and cuneate bases. Its flowers are greenish-white, followed by striking orange to bright red globose fruits up to 2 cm in diameter.
