It features two types of fronds: heart-shaped sterile fronds (12-45 cm long) that form a basal shield to collect water and nutrients, and arching grey-green fertile fronds (up to 90 cm long) that are forked and strap-shaped, resembling antlers. This rainforest species grows in aggregations where individual plants may specialize in water absorption or detritus collection, potentially demonstrating an incipient form of eusociality through resource sharing.
